I don't like the way night mode is done in Shift 2, except for the green racing line, I can't see much beyond my headlights, there's no "high beam", and the racing line went away after a few laps in the endurance series. GTR2 was the same way (plus it also had weather effects if you wanted).
NFS Carbon and NFS World have a very bright moon, so even in the places without lighting, you can still see the track almost as well as daytime mode. It's visual effect as opposed to a visual handicap.
I haven't been able to get gamma to work in full screen, and the gameplay is very laggy if I used windowed mode.

Yeah, I also don't enjoy the night races much. Maybe it's realistic that you can hardly see the track at night but it's for sure not much fun (which is what a game is supposed to be).

Realistic would be strong head lights with high beams that let you see more of the road ahead. This is a game, so I would prefer a Carbon / World type night mode, where you can see the track welll beyond the range of the headlight beams.
