update - I forgot to mention that all of this testing was done offline only, no online leaderboard times were affected by my testing.
There doesn't seem to be any difference in grip between normal and elite modes. These settings just seem to change the defaults on the other settings. I used "elite" mode with damage off for these runs. I didn't use any setups (tuning) on the cars in my mini-test. I also didn't try tricks like turning auto-clutch off which improved launches and sped up shifting in Shift 1. Replays are saveable now, they show up as .med files in directory called media.
Since I know this track and it's short, I used it for a quick car comparason, doing 2 sets of 4 lap races with each car, except for the Zonda R, since it was the first and I did 3 sets with it.
car - rating - best lap time
Maserati GT1 - A1810 - 1:11.804 Pagani Zonda R - A1950 - 1:09.9?? Pagani Hauyra works - A2176 - 1:08.766 Koenigsegg CCX works - A2186 - didn't test McLaren F1 works - A2263 - 1:08.227 Gumpert Apollo works - A2354 - 1:06.845
Comments
There maybe some other cars that are in this same performance range, but my guess is the Gumpert is going to be the fastest car in Shift 2. All GT1 cars are rated A1810, but I don't know if they all drive the same.
The Pagani Zonda R seemed similar to the Shift 1 version, but a bit slower since I was using default setup and it was the first car I tested. The Pagani Hauyra required a light touch on the throttle through the tighter turns. The McLaren needed a bit more braking than the other cars. The Gumpert required a light touch on the steering at high speeds, but throttle wasn't an issue; it drives like a high downforce car.

Notes - there doesn't seem to be any difference in grip between "normal" and "elite" modes. These settings just seem to change the defaults on the other settings. After Shift 1 came out, I just assumed that the handling modes were mere presets of settings. Pro had the default settings closest to what I wanted to use (the only thing left to change was transmission), so that is what I used. I struggled immensely online before I read that Normal adds both grip and a lower centre of gravity. I'm keen to test this out for myself in Shift 2, but I guess more technical people will soon enough tell us exactly what the difference is, if there really is any difference besides the default settings.

Why didnt you tested the Lambo GT1 or the new McLaren? I'll get to the other cars later. I backed up that test save and will get back to it. I'm not expecting any surprises. I actually suspected that the Gumpert works car was going to be fast, and it may end up being the fastest overall car. Since all the GT1 cars are rated the same at A1810, they may all be the same except for the visuals. In GTR 2 the Lambo GT1 race was the fastest car, while the Saleen was the easiest car to drive. (or maybe that was GTR 1, not sure).

Hi!
In GTR1 or 2 also dont remember, for hotlaps Saleen was awesome, but would burn tires a lot quicker and needed more fuel, so not the best of cars overall, although best car in a few. Ferrari and Lambo would be the overall fastest, depending on the track.
I was looking at statistics and I have a feeling with both those cars... I may be wrong but the Lambo, at least in twisty tracks, may cause some damage. Also the Corvette GT1 might be interesting.

Hi Jeff!
You may want to take a look also at R8. With Works setup I thing it goes over 2200 rating.
Cya!

I managed to set a world record in Autolog tonight with the Zonda bonus car that you get for having played HP3. It didn't last very long though and I am afraid this whole feature will also be useless pretty soon as the first cheat times are already starting to pop up.

Zonda bonus car that you get for having played HP3. Assuming I read the post race stats correctly, that car is rated at A2070? Have you tried the works Gumpert Apollo yet (rating is A2354).

No, I have only played the game for a few hours so far, so I will probably not have enough money to buy any fast cars yet, if they are even unlocked at all.
And yeah, that car seems to be rated 2070.
The name is Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster HP Edition.
I got all the possible VIP bonuses for having played the previous parts. For most of them you get only cash but for HP you also get 3 bonus cars, I think some Shelby Terlingua, a Reventon police car and this Zonda. I can't check right now because I don't have my wheel at the PC and I am not sure if I lose my controller settings if I start the game without it.

I have only played the game for a few hours so far, so I will probably not have enough money to buy any fast cars yet, if they are even unlocked at all. I used a generic trainer to add $20 million cash to the game, to try out the fastest cars. Nothing's locked in the game except for career events, so bumping the money lets you test everything. I wanted to see how the top cars handled, and I'm now seeing some stability issues on the faster cars when testing at Nordschleife. I'm using default setups, so not sure if I can tune out the mild weave some cars get if they get disturbed. So far my best time at Nordschiefe is a 6:16 with the works Apollo. With that car you end up drifting a lot on corner entry if you're pusing hard, and you have to turn in a bit later than you do with the other cars because of it's grip. I'm just under 6:30 with the other cars I've tried so far. Clipping curbs disturbs the cars and sometimes trigger a weave if you don't let off the throttle. Top speeds with default tuning I saw at Nordschleife: works McLaren F1 - 223 mph works Apollo - 189 mph The other top cars were around 200 mph, didn't do a lot of testing with them. The seams in the Ambush Canyon track that cause cars to bump are gone. Also at Road America. The compression bug in Shift 1 is fixed now, cars don't go bouncing at Eau Rouge at Spa or in the banked turns Dakota Tri Oval (there is a bumpy section at 1/2 lap, but that seems on purpose). More test times: Dakota Tri Oval - works Veyron - 29.45 Spa - new layout - works Apollo - 2:06.5 (didn't do a lot of laps) Road America - works Apollo - 1:50.4 Now that I've tested these cars, I'm not so sure I like the physics as much at Shift 1. The main issue is the weave / stability and trying to avoid clipping curbs while pushing the limits on the narrower tracks at high speeds. Will be taking my time going through career mode now that I know what the top cars are like.

Hey Jeff I use to have allot of respect for you and thought you was a great guy with allot of knowledge in the racing world but now you lost all my respect that means all these static that you type in here are bull chit, everything is from a cheater prospective and not a real racer, While the rest of us struggle to get a good lap time and race clean your just breezing through the game, Why don't you take your cheating azz hacks to another board and type your bull chit there. its people like you that fu** up this game for the rest of use honest people that have morals, I have only played the game for a few hours so far, so I will probably not have enough money to buy any fast cars yet, if they are even unlocked at all. Jeff.. everything isnt unlocked for me. Is is possible that you can only have one works car at a time? Dreamgate and I discussed and played and tried to get to know which cars might be the best. Apparently he could just buy and upgrade everything for the Murcielago. I still cant upgrade that car. Other cars also have locked stuff that I cant upgrade. Although I am further into my career than he is. Other random questions. How do we accept a game invite? Only know how to send an invite. It seems that if you do offline quick races, time trial or whatever it doesnt get uploaded to autolog? Or is it just me who cant find it? You cant really drive career events to set records.

RCGLRD,
we all appreciate your feedback about car comparison and handling modes present in the game.
But honestly, you could also test all the fastest cars just by completing career and earning enough money to buy them.
Using money cheat codes just to get your own World Records on the Speedwall before everyone else completes their careers is not a fair practice.
At least you confessed that you used the code, and it is a good thing. But who can guarantee that you won't cheat next time during friendly competition.

Some of you people doesn´t seem to know Jeff if You suspect him of cheating online. He has been into NFS racing since forever - and all though he uses cheat codes or trainers to unlock things, he would never use a trainer that would improve performance online. It´s just Jeff´s nature to test things - out of curiosity - that´s all.
I like Jeff´s input and have always done... keep up the good work Jeff.
