You can't say that Poul, I'm getting below 30 fps and its real hard to race and be competitive with a slow frame rate, I running a single core 3.2GHz with hyper threading. Windows see it as a dual core but its only single core CPU I bet you $20.00 bucks after I'm able to upgrade that my lap times will increase and I'll be more competitive up near Aaron and Tomas lap times. that would put me in the top 10 -15 range on some tracks. My reason to upgrading to a quad core 2.8 is so I can don't have upgrade my PC for a few more years. I would like to get another 4 years out of my next PC too. by then we'll be in the 6 core range of the CPU technology. There are people out there that runs Shift with two GTX480 in SLI and they are not faster than any other guy with a budget video card Sunny - trust me - all you need is something along your screens refresh rate - like 60 fps. If I thought I would become faster than Cipriani and Rogerio and beat them by 2secs each lap and take all the WR´s I would have bought two GTX480 a long time ago - then money would not be an issue. More likely 8 cores Sunny, the 6 core is all ready here. I understand that everything below 30 fps would hurt lap times a lot, but going from 60 fps to 100 fps would not have a significant impact on lap times. But I will tell you some time tuesday or wednesday, because I ordered another GTX460.

Yep, six core are already here. Here one for example but this chip is $1.000 however in 4 yrs this chip may come to down near the quad core prices around $300.00 bucks. www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115223&cm_re=core_i7-_-19-115-223-_-Productwhat I was really expecting was the GHz to go way up passed 4GHz maybe ever up to 6GHz which hasn't happen yet because of the heating issue. What is the differance between; 1. Bloomfield 2. Clarksfield 3. Lynnfield 4. Gulftown All these chips expect the Gulftown are priced real close to one another, Now the Bloomfield has 256K of L2 cache per core which would make a huge difference in performace but you will be paying for that because of the price. But the Clarkfield and Lynnfield are so close to one another I can't see any differance. While cheching out motherboards I found that most of the MB mfg offer L2 cache with the MB, ..I guess all depends on how much money you have to spend. to DreamGate goto www.fraps.com/ and download a free copy of this software it lays over any game so you can see you're frame rate. Plus you can take screen shot at anytime

Finally my 2nd GTX460 arrived today (took off early from work ) and I have just replaced the thermal compound and put some mosfets on the VRM´s and installed both running SLI - just took them for a spin in Shift I am running a moderate overclock of 900 MHz core, 1800 MHz shader and 1900 MHZ memory from the default clock speed of 675/1350/1800. SLI runs great in Shift and here is a benchmark like the one posted earlier on London River. Comparing GTX 285, GTX460 and GTX460 SLI running graphics settings on highest possible. Benchmark at London River time attack in roughly 1 min 10 secs. Overclocked GTX 285 running 741 core 1600 shader 1403 memory - default 648 core - 1476 shader - 1242 memory2010-07-22 18:27:12 - SHIFT Frames: 6708 - Time: 79525ms - Avg: 84.351 - Min: 71 - Max: 99 Out of the box GTX 460 running 700 core 1400 shader 1800 memory2010-07-26 16:05:34 - SHIFT Frames: 6504 - Time: 83479ms - Avg: 77.912 - Min: 57 - Max: 92 Overclocked GTX 460 - 900 core - 1800 shader - 1900 memory2010-07-26 16:55:41 - SHIFT Frames: 7190 - Time: 78107ms - Avg: 92.053 - Min: 80 - Max: 106 Overclocked GTX 460 SLI - 900 core 1800 shader - 1900 memory2010-08-18 15:14:26 - SHIFT Frames: 11506 - Time: 77953ms - Avg: 147.602 - Min: 118 - Max: 189 JUST PLAIN AWESOME Poul

I tested my cards this morning and the performance is great, but my overclocks are not as high as before - the reason of course is that the top card get a damn lot hotter than the bottom one. The top card get as high as 87 celcius degrees, while the bottom one only reaches 60 C. I need to figure out what to do with the top card in order to reach higher clocks. Anyway here is Unigine benchmark running SLI - a whole lot faster than running only one card. Poul

Poul I have two questions,
1. Is you're monitor plug into the first video card or the second card?
2. Are both video cards overclock the same....
I have another question related to question # 2 but I'll wait for you're answer before asking that question.

Hey Sunny Sorry for the late reply - I have not been home, but at my Grandmothers 85th birthday party. The monitor is plugged into the master card and they are overclocked the same yes. Poul

My other question was;
Does the second video card have to be plug into a 16x or 8x EPCI slot?
edit; do you think an 850 Watt PSU would be enough for the list below? (I'm not going to get two video cards at first but if I do I don't want to replace the PSU a second time"
1. Quadcore 2.8 CPU & Cooler 2. Two GTX 460 maybe a GTX 465 3. 4GB RAM maybe 8GB 4. 80 GB SSD and one 1TB HDD 5. Optical drive & CDRW burner 6. Creative Lab Sound Blaster card
Everything depands on the price at the time of purchase.

You can run SLI connected in a 16x, a 8x lane and even 4x if needed. The performance drop according to tomshardware is not much - under 5 fps. Read an aritcle on the subject here: www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pcie-geforce-gtx-480-x16-x8-x4,2696.html And yes that 850W PSU is more than enough to run that system configuration. The system will draw a total of around 450W-500W when gaming in Shift. Another thing; do not buy the GTX465 since it is slower than the GTX460, unless you plan to make it into a GTX470 which I don´t think is what you plan to do.

Hey Sunny You do not want a 775 socket - it has to be either a 1156, or 1366 socket if you go by Intel. Perhaps you should read the preview from anandtech, they managed to get their hands on a CPU from the new Sandy Bridge line., you ought to read the whole article, these will be released starting next year. www.anandtech.com/show/3871/the-sandy-bridge-preview-three-wins-in-a-rowBut without a doubt the i7 950 is a great buy and its price have been cut in half - from US $562 to $294.
