Hey Sunny The Gainward "Golden Sample" editions have a two pipe heatsink underneath the fan and they should run cooler than the reference design. But problem is that the heat is not exhausted from the case with this design, so you need a fair amount of airflow in your case. This is how it looks: And here is the fan on top: Notice that black square heatsink covering the VRM at the right side of the heatsink - that one was only on the cards Gainward and Palit send out for reviews and is not on the retail version. That is just terrible and something I do not understand they did. Now I need something to cover that area - just to make sure that I do not burn out the card by running very high overclocks. I can highly recommend this card, but I think every GTX460 will be something you should look into if you are still thinking of replacing your GTS250. Edited: This PCB from Gainward has nothing to do with the reference design. This one will overclock better for sure since it has a four-phase GPU voltage regulator, and a single-phase memory voltage regulator. Gainward decided to use a 4-phase regulator instead of the reference card’s 3-phase one. Poul

This is insane...look at the merory overclock. On a standard GTX460 memory clocks are 1800 Mhz and I am running 2320 Mhz - just awesome with an overclock of 520Mhz Temperatures are around 73 C which is nice with such a huge overclock. I am starting to love this card Poul

Since there are no real aftermarket solution for heat sink,, I found these 3 video cards with the GTX460 chipset... Check out this heat sink on this MSI video card GigiByte $229.99 GV-N460OC-1GI GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card MSI $234.99 N460GTX CYCLONE 1GD5/OC GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card galaxy $249.99 60XGH6HS3GMW GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Super OC 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

I like the MSI, it looks cool. Not a bad price either.
Almost 100 FPS Poul!, that is impressive.

All those cards looks to be great and run cool, but neither of those cards are not yet available in Denmark.

Post at General and we will try to sort this out. I did not try to change swap file size when testing SSD vs HDD when recording - I will do that later today. Swap file is located in System properties and open the fan advanced - performance options and then advanced again - in there you can change the size of virtual memory. Mine is set to system managed in there and I do not have any virtual memory allocated. Poul Continued from inner circle - I just checked and the SSD is set to system managed also. The HDD was not though, so i set it to system managed too. Hopefully that will help. I didnt test anything last night, was gathering information for a customer. (Thats why i didnt race Sunny, sorry.)

So after replacing the TIM on my new GTX460 and adding some heat sinks onto the VRM, I decided to compare it to a overclocked GTX470. Now what do you guys think of this results? My card is running 930MHz core 1860MHz shader and 2340MHz memory - huge overclock - highest I have seen anywhere. Here are some charts to see where my card is compared to others. Now beating a overcloked GTX470 and even an ATI 5870 is damn impressive if you ask me - and I did it by quite a lot. The settings I used in Unigine benchmark are the same as Hardwarecanucks used when testing that overclocked GTX470. Poul Edit: You might think that was just because all of my other components in my PC are much faster than what Hardwarecanucks used - but no They used: Test System & Setup Processor: Intel Core i7 920(ES) @ 4.0Ghz (Turbo Mode Enabled) Memory: Corsair 3x2GB Dominator DDR3 1600Mhz Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Cooling: CoolIT Boreas mTEC + Scythe Fan Controller (Off for Power Consuption tests) Disk Drive: Pioneer DVD Writer Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB Power Supply: Corsair HX1000W Monitor: Samsung 305T 30” widescreen LCD OS: Windows 7 Ultimate N x64 SP1

Very impressive Poul,, the big question is how long will it last.
Good Hardware will last forever and cheap hardware may last a little while before something smokes....

Thanks Aaron - it is impressive, but i would not recommend anyone trying for that high a overclock and it is not very stable at these clocks - I see small artifacts and randomly crashes, so it is something to aim for and not something to use on a 24/7 basis. Sunny... I really could not care less if it only last 6 months - or 3 for that matter. At this price (230$) I think it is funny and great that you can have this much performing for such a small price. If you think you have room for my GTX285 in your PC case Sunny, you can post me your full address by PM, and I will send you my GTX285 with the Accelero Extreme GTX 280 aftermarket cooler on it. I have just checked to see how long it will take the package to get there and you should be able to have it within a week. If you are quick about it I can send it tomorrow and hopefully you can have it before next weeks PBRC ends But try to measure if it will fit in your case. It measures 30cm or about 12 inches and if your case is too small, go buy a new like you talked about. Poul

WOW Poul that's a great offer. but I'm going to have to decline, I need a new motherboard, I think I'll be going with that quad-core 2.8 if by then that 2.97GHz comes down, I get that one instead... Thank you for the offer... when I'm ready I'll be coming to you before I make my choice for you're expert advice. Question; do you think that super fast PC you have has anything to do with those extremely fast times you're getting?? Thanks Aaron - it is impressive, but i would not recommend anyone trying for that high a overclock and it is not very stable at these clocks - I see small artifacts and randomly crashes, so it is something to aim for and not something to use on a 24/7 basis. All right Sunny, but now the card is just going to collect dust on the shelf - like my old 8800GTS that also has an aftermarket attached. I have a whole computer with a Core 2 Duo 8400 that can run 4.0 GHz just sitting in a corner thinking why am I not in use - too old? I just need to replace the motherboard I think and then it will run again. Maybe that should be my next project - getting my old PC back up running I will go water cooling once we see some water blocks for the GTX460 here in Denmark - I want some more quiet operations and higher overclocks I am thinking about buying a Swiftech MCR320-DRIVE radiator, that has a built in pump and reservoir - looks to be a great product - read a lot of positive reviews. If I think that you need a super fast PC to get the times I am running? No, any fps above 50-60 will be just fine - important is the fact that the game runs smooth without hiccups, but having more than 100fps is not going to give you 2 secs a lap - that has to do with talent and practice Poul

we'll let this issue rest for now, but I beg to differ, I know with a faster PC I can get two or three seconds faster times,
However to catch up with you I would need 5 -7 seconds faster times.. which is not going happen....
well as long as I can beat Aaron I'd be happy with that.. It would be money well spent.
Also the water cooler thing I intend on getting a water cooler for my PC,, I have a friend that uses a liquid cooler that uses two drive bay slots.... cuts out allot of noise on his PC...

There are people out there that runs Shift with two GTX480 in SLI and they are not faster than any other guy with a budget video card Sunny - trust me - all you need is something along your screens refresh rate - like 60 fps. If I thought I would become faster than Cipriani and Rogerio and beat them by 2secs each lap and take all the WR´s I would have bought two GTX480 a long time ago - then money would not be an issue.
