This pretty much just killed my buzz on this game.

I think the starter pack is a great idea. That way all the little boy and girl who can't afford the game can play. However they are limited to how far that they can progress through the game..
I'm just hoping that NFS WO is not our newest game for racing,, if it is I'll be racing shift for another year..

I'm not sure right now if I will pay for the Starter Pack. (Probably will do when it comes out though, just to have it all )

More starter pack info from joystq.com... NFSW will be released as a free game client which will let players advance their driver up to level 10 before being asked to purchase a "starter pack." The game can continue to be played without it, but players won't be able to level up to earn new vehicles and power-ups.
EA is accepting pre-orders for a $19.99 starter pack, which allows for progression up to level 50 and includes an exclusive car, beta access, the ability to play NFSW a week before release and a selection of power-ups. Jussi

One of the concerns is how many other "packs" will players be paying for down the road if this is the "starter pack"?

Well, they set the level cap for starter pack to level 50. It really depends how fast the levelling is. I'm sure people who hit the cap are willing to pay more to go higher... They planned on supporting this games for years to come, so if level 50 can be reached in few monts, we can except a lot of level cap unlocking packs to come along. Jussi PS. This system is nicer than monthly fees, because you only have to pay, when you reach the cap. So if you play a little per month, you only pay little per month. And if you grind like mad, you pay like mad.

They planned on supporting this games for years to come, so if level 50 can be reached in few months, we can except a lot of level cap unlocking packs to come along. Other than NFS High Stakes and Porsche Unleashed, and possibly NFS Shift, the number of players involved with online racing quickly diminished after about a year. NFS Shift has also diminished, but not by a factor of 5x to 10x as has happened with NFS games since Hot Pursuit 2. I'm not sure about the long term future of NFS World. I'm hoping that eventually they come out with a boxed retail version that I can play years from now, long after the online service is shutdown.

i guess i won't be getting World for a LONG time then if not never if this is so. I usually don't have the moneys for these extra pack thingies n lv cap? eh, no thanks... There's enough of those in games i play; don't need it in a NFS game AS WELL..
i think i'll stick to my still-fun Most Wanted... i liked World but money issues as usual...

I would have respect EA if they would just charge for the content based on what you want, cars, customizations, leveling up, ect...But those "harry potter" power ups that no asked for is a deal breaker for me...

Why am I not surprised? Seriously, I knew that EA and completely free wouldn't fit in the same sentence. So the greedy bastards are after your money again. Screw this you can't go further unless you pay. Game developers should cut this bullcrap and just f**king set a fixed price for a finished product.
Needless to say that I won't be getting World Online. There's better stuff on the way, so I'll just wait for TDU2 and see what Criterion makes of Hot Pursuit.
