Lovely little profit! But may i say, i worry about you Stig. You seem to have a fair few accidents. May i suggest something 'tougher', like maybe a Volvo? The old square ones, that weight 2tonne...

From cereal box? But anyway. It is allways better crash old ju... cars than new ones. Right? Doesn't annoy that much if it would be brand new car. Aye?

Yup. The entire reason I bought that car was so that bad things could happen to it and not the Aero, this just justifies the purchase. With the $3k insurance check I have some plans.... <$1000 beater New computer Photo stuff (Couple lenses + some random stuff) Goodies for the Aero (Wheels, 3" turbo-back exhaust (allows a much more aggressive tune ), T7 boost control, bodywork, etc. Some new tires for the track car. Should be fun.

So with the death of my NG, I was in need of a new winter beater. Once the lady's insurance co. finally paid up, I bought this '91 9000 Turbo. It has Aero interior, Aero TD04, Aero springs, Aero side skirts, glass moonroof, rear Bilstiens, Swedish Dynamics stage 3, short shifter, some stuff I'm probably forgetting, and lots of new replacement parts. It was like this: Then we were totally dead at work so I decided to punch out a little early and buff half of the hood to see how well it would come out. Next thing I know everyone is grabbing buffers and going to town. Totally OOF, but you get the picture... Unfortunately, that's when things started going downhill. First the clutch started intermittently staying on the floor, and then the exhaust fell off. Directly in front of the only muffler. Long 30 mile drive dragging it... Main problem being the exhaust is some ghetto shit that's welded into one piece from the downpipe on back, but progress is being made. So now it looks like this:

Found a Saab lover, saying hello Keep up the good work bro, I really look forward to see your work. P.S. I've seen your beige 900 NG in Flickr, can't believe that I found the owner.

^Thanks. I miss that 900. So let's see, the 9000. In boxes (STILL) I have Koni adjustable struts all around, B&G springs, a pile of exhaust parts, various other things. I hate to think how much money I've got into boxes of car parts. The wheels in my last post I ended up selling after not being able to get adapters. Replaced them with another used set that ended up being the wrong bolt pattern. Gave up, bought tires (Hankook Ventus RS-3 20mm wider than stock size) for the stock wheels, moved on. Added 20mm spacers at the same time (needed to make the offsets work on wheel set #2) Brakes have been replaced. 2 new calipers, 4 new stock rotors, EBC Redstuff pads all around. Suspension was supposed to get done this Thursday. Turns out Irene is a bitch and the place that was supposed to happen is under 5-6 feet of water. Dealer, all their inventory lost, etc... not good. Hood got replaced, e-code corner lights, T7 boost control conversion is getting done tomorrowish. The plan? Should be able to get things wrapped up this year (another couple months before I have to break out the new winter beater). 3" turbo back exhaust, ECU reflash (in the realm of 250whp), suspension. Next year: Wheels, fix the rear wheelarch rust that has made an appearance, SAS swaybars, who knows what else. I think I mentioned new winter beater back there.... and OMFG it's a car that's NOT A SAAB! (I'll give you all a minute to find your socks that just blew off) Meet my '95 Subaru Legacy Outback. 2.2, 5spd, AWD, 242k miles, one owner. Couple random pics of the Saab... So, yeah, that's my year.

Lets get this out of the way now: still no exhaust, still no suspension. What I do have is new rear brakes (replaced 1 caliper, 2 rotors, with EBC Redstuffs) with thanks to Nickturbo900 and a T7 BPC conversion thanks to 8valvegrowl. Armed with those two things at least, I spent the weekend at the track Started things off in typical fashion with a couple of stripped lug bolts rotating my tires, but got that squared away (aka got my breaker bar out and forced them in. With no way to do it right it was either that or abandon the car 4+ hours away. After that, everything went smoothly. Saturday I was kind of feeling things out, Sunday I found my groove and the times started dropping These tires are AWESOME. I ended up cutting about 3.5 seconds off my previous best times, which I'm more than happy with. The new brakes are much improved but still not quite where I'd like them. Not sure if this will work for you, but here's video: www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?v=2196151755991

I always like to do things like this the day after spending the weekend on a track The car feels SO much better now, though. Koni Yellows, B&G springs, new front control arm bushings. I have the Konis set to full stiff rear and 1/4 turn from full stiff in the front. Ride is firm, but well composed. Install went fairly well I guess. Thanks to the awesome* design of the 9000 rear suspension we had to pull the rear axle off the car and cut through the rear mounts of the old shocks to remove them without destroying the swaybar bushings. The fronts were interesting. First time I've ever had to turn this: Into this: To facilitate a strut install. Had to take the spacers out of the rear. For those taking notes, Aero wheels + 20mm spacers with 225/50 will rub with stock suspension in the rear. Took the plastic trim off and the sidewall was hitting the 1/4 panel. There's like a 1/8" lip there, too, nothing to roll.

Details? lol. Summer is over here Nothing else will be happening to the Saab this year, time to figure out my wish list for next year. So far: E-code headlights SAS swaybars Exhaust!! A/C delete? Big FMIC? General "tidy up" things in the engine bay New brake pads (Redstuffs are fine on a street car, I actually melted them on the track) Wheels? Etc. Been doing some work on the Subie, though, getting it ready. Could be on the road as early as this week. The main reason it was $400: Yep: [Not pictured: Mass amounts of tiger hair] Done (coat the whole mess in spray on bedliner) Then there was this... [Another mass of tiger hair] And took the center out of the grillE for cool points: Also, you may have noticed the bedliner running down the rocker in the last pic. Well couldn't have things like that dragging down the quality of my work...
