Ok Poul, here are my temps. Only raised GPU and Memory 10 Mhz At idle After 10 minutes of running Furmark Notice memory IO temp is 91+ celcius

Hey Aaron I have been doing a lot of reading and now I know everything there is to know about cooling that card of yours. We have some options and I am still not sure what are the best solution - but i know what the easiest ones are. I need you to download that program GPU-Z I linked in the message i sent you. That one will show us the VRM temperatures and I really have a problem seeing any numbers in your pictures. Could you please write them down or have photobucket not resize them? Did you change voltage when you overclocked? I think you should go back to stock settings for starters - to have a clean sheet to start off with. Then we will see what happens when we start overclocking. We need to overclock with your stock cooler just to see at what numbers your PC will freeze. Don´t worry, nothing will happen because of that. These cards will not blow up because of this at all. If so then they could not sell any to those living in warm places. Then we notice at what temperatures your card locks up and we then wait with the rest until you get that aftermarket cooler tomorrow. Please post a picture using that GPU-Z program to get VRM temperatures. It is those we need to be concerned about. Every aftermarket cooler will be able to cool down the core and memory, but it is the voltage regulators we need to cool as well. I know what we can use for this job because I installed some Enzotech copper mosfets on my GTX 285. And you will not believe what temperatures I have when I run Furmark. Well see pictures here. That picture is taken running 4.4 GHz on my i7 920 and overclocking my GTX 285 form stock 648/1242/1476 to an awesome 741/1400/1600 and still highest core temperature is 60 something and the rest 50 or below. And the temperatures on my GTX 285 are way down. GPU is only 56 and memory 46. That is using an Accelero Extreme 280 aftermarket cooler - damn expensive I have to add and even more so because of the mosfets. Anyway write the temperatures down and post a picture of GPU-Z please. Poul

Aaron I forgot to tell you that your Zalman VF1000 will fit your 4890 graphics card fine. It just will not be able to cool down the VRM temperatures, but that can be fixed using either the heatsink from the stock cooler or using some other heatsink or some mosfets. Edited: VRM temperatures can be as high as 130 degrees celcius and many times that is what is preventing you from going higher when overclocking. With all the money you now spend on aftermarket coolers and such you could have bought the 5950 Well its a chance for learning something new Edited again: Just checked and yes I can see the numbers, but I am near sighted Poul

Ok, ill install GPU-Z in a few minutes. Did you click on the pictures? I uploaded pics at 1024x768 so you read everything.

Aaron what brand is that 4890 you bought? I need to know what PCB design it has. Could you post a link to where you got it from?

My personal opinion is that overclocking the GPU will not get one that much more fps to notice it.. Also, the chances of the GPU dying because of overclocking is considerable as well... I say: don't do it. Grtz and goodluck, Bandit

LOL Bandit, then its a good thing Aaron chose to buy XFX, because they really do not care if you put an aftermarket cooler onto one of their graphics cards. If it dies (which it won´t), then you just send it back and you get a new one. Aaron was it not Bandit that told you not to overclock your CPU? And now you are doing 4.0 GHz - and it sure makes a difference I believe were your words. And the GPU will not die of overclocking. It will die of adding more voltage without proper cooling or running it at its max 24/7 but not from an overclock. Todays cards have something called throttling, that means the card will lower itself as soon as your VRM temperatures are too high. Why do you think ATI gives you software to raise the voltage? Hell they beg you to overclock. Read this about VRM temperatures and overclocking Bandit. www.anandtech.com/weblog/showpost.aspx?i=657Poul

Here is a picture to show Bandit what overclocking can do for fps. And the card highlighted was not even able to overclock by much. Poul

Not to change the subject, I have a video question for you guys, in a thread long long ago, Poul said to change the video settings in the game to match the video settings of the desktop. At that time my desktop resolution is 1152 x 864 the game didn't have those settings but now it does, So I changed the game to match the desktop settings, My question is what's the difference between 0xAA, 2xAA, 4xAA etc etc ? My tired old eyes doesn't see any difference 0xAA - 8xAA
Also a question about refresh rate will a higher refresh rate help in the game as well. I currently have my desktop refresh rate at 75Hz does it make a difference in the game? will a higher setting help with the fps ?

I didn't say that CPU overclocking wouldn't be noticable; I just said that GPU overclocking is not worth the risk of overheating/frying because the noticable differances in fps ain't that much at all.. Numbers 'on paper' i do not care for much; I want to notice the differance, and when it comes to overclocking GPU's, like i said, the noticable differances are minimal, and thus not worth the risk, to me .. Overclocking the CPU is different story though, but even still i discourage it. (even though i do it myself) -Guarrentee blablabla- No hard feelings though! Bandit

I understand what you mean Bandit. But just 10-15 fps more will help a lot in a racing game where everything happens so quickly and it sure will be an noticeable difference when you use FRAPS to record your run. It could be those 10 fps that will make the game run smooth and prevent stuttering which we all know will hurt your lap times. If you have FRAPS running when you play like me and Aaron, you will always be able to tell the difference, because fps numbers are shown in the corner on the screen.
About your question Sunny. To get the best possible result when uploading a video to youtube, Jeff once told me to change the game resolution to 1280x720, because that is what youtube used when they show your video. Other than that always use your monitors native resolution and refresh rate to get the best result and higher refresh rate will help reduce flickering. But do you use a CRT monitor?
But I have to say that I know very little about AA other than it helps smothering (nice word) how the game looks.

Yes I have a 23" flat screen CRT Monitor. Plus I also use fraps but only the evaluation copy. In the game video section what number are you using, Right now I think I have it set for #70
Poul you didn't my gaming station setup? There is a thread where everyone showed there Gaming station setup's. Aaron is in there as well as mine and many others. I'd like to see you're and Jeff setup too. I want to see how Jeff has his joy sticks configured.
