That is just so awesome. How do those things run anyway? I know it's via solar, but, how do they just start going, and how do you stop them?

Its powered by a DC 6V motor, for it to run it needs a gear. Since its only a single gear we change the gear to adjust to conditions. The gear wheel is attached to the drive wheel allowing the car to power along. They can literally wheelspin quite a bit and can be quite dangerous as the electric motor produces quite a bit of torque initially. Stopping these cars... quite medieval, we use a towel or jumper. Bottom line is.. It's a sizeable project that is harder than it looks

With that, yes, I can see that it is indeed quite a size-able project.
