Until recently,
I did not really know
that making custom-made vinils for Shift2 is soooo easy.
We can just simply edit each and every of them
in the Adobe Photoshop program
and get our own vinils, even ISRC one,
without problems for online play whatsoever.
VINIL EDITING TUTORIAL by DimitriKhoz:
Step1:
Basically,
all the vinils are compessed in one file
Paintshop.bff which is located in the Pakfiles folder.
Step2:
So we need to export them
using the *.bff extractor programm QuickBms,
that can be found on one popular German NFS forum:
forum.nfsplanet.de/attachment.php?attachmentid=1489&d=1253410077
copy Paintshop.bff to the safe location
start quickbms.exe
select nfsshift.bms script from the Quickbms program folder
select Paintshop.bff
select the folder to extract the files
done
Step3:
After extracting them to any location on your Hard Disc,
you can find all vinils in the Paintshop/Textures folder.
Step4:
You will need:
A) Adobe Photoshop program installed on your computer
(even old one is ok,
I have a CS2 version and it works great for me)
www.toggle.com/lv/group/view/kl34537/Adobe_Photoshop_CS2.htm
B) NVIDIA Texture Tool installed as a pug-in for your Photoshop,
you can download it for free from Nvidia Website:
developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-adobe-photoshop
Step5:
Open any vinil as an image in Adobe Photoshop,
edit it as you want, including, very important, alpha channel
(The pieces of the image which should have transparency have to be black, the rest white.
Also you may need to reduce all layers to the background layer
by rightclicking on one of the layers and choosing Flatten Image option.)
After editing/transforming it to YOUR OWN MEGA COOL VINIL
save it instead of original
as a .dss file using DXT3 compression (from the given list) and using the same filename.
Step6:
Repack all files back to the new Paintshop.bff
using BFF Repacker GUI:
www.4shared.com/get/V4lIqGT-/BFF_Repacker_GUI.html
Use similar procedure as I described for the Quickbms.
Step7:
Replace the original Paintshop.bff file
in the Pakfiles folder of the NFS Shift2 game
with the new one containing your own vinils.
DONE!
P.S.>
Big thanks to the NFS Shift2 player
with the name Berl1n1
who shared this workflow with me.
As example of custom made vinils made in 5 min,
he recreated Adidas F50 soccer Vinil
and placed it on the top of his beloved BMW:
