Yes,
it looks like because of different release dates throughout the globe,
EA decided to go an easy way,
and the game needs manual activation for North America before it allows to download it.
Same for me,
only after spending about 30 min in the line-up for online support chat,
and then 15 min explaining to the chat-bot my situation,
game appeared in my download manager,
and now I am playing it.
First impressions:
1)Graphics looks awesome.
Much better than in Shift or HP2011.
But it requires Hi-End video card.
I have MSI 560Ti Frozer overclocked to 960MhzGPU/4700MhzMemory
and it is obviously not enough for the game.
SH*T2 gives me only 20-30fps during night time races
(I play 1620*1050 with all options on, 8xAA and 16xAnis)
2) Improved upgrades and tuning.
More detailed engine and transmission sections.
+ They kept NITROS + On the fly adjustments
But score system is not well balanced.
There is no balance between power vs handling improvements.
Brakes and suspension upgrades cost almost nothing,
drastically improve lap times,
but do not pump-up car rating score at all,
So these upgrades are no-brainier.
3) Handling is different,
but steering lag, brakes efficiency, downshifts and stability depend on the particular car.
Some are easy to drive, some are donuts makers.
4)Money.
There is so much money in the game,
that just after 10-15 races you will have around $500,000.
So you can buy all the cars available in the game for the given Tier score,
and it will be enough money left to tune them all.
Moreover, after about 3 hours of the game and 15-20 races you will be Lvl 13-15,
and almost all career events will be open for you, so you will be able to purchase Bugatti or Pagani just after playing 2-3 Top events.
AND!!! You can always resell the car with tune or without for the full price!!!
Or just sell tune parts you do not need.
I do not like it. It is boring.
There is no incentive or motivation to win all races with gold or to save money.
5)Computer AI.
Much better then in all previous games,
but much worse than real opponents.
6)There is a Voice chat online,
World/Regional leader boards for every event,
very good and playable helmet camera,
excellent bloor and DOF effects,
improved engine and track sounds,
not bad music tracks,
bad game intro,
and funny voice of Drift Champ almost every event,
well made, with script resembling recent TV Reality Shows.
