Sh*t, after all in-game menues run smooth and starting video of the career is finished, I am in the BMW for 10-15 sec and the game crashes to the desktop. I do not know what is the root of this problem. Looks similar to the ProStreet game crash, but I can always play Prostreet for 2-3 hours without any issues.

Just got it from Game Stop. Might not get a chance to install it until tomorrow though. Busy night here.

Looks like my NFS: Shift experience lasted five seconds.
No installation since I run an ATI card and it seems to want to run PhysX. It keeps telling me PhysX did not install successfully then stops the installation process. I read about one person on the EA boards getting the same error, but he seemed to get around it by getting the latest graphics card driver. Not an option for me since I'm running ATI's latest driver.
I always wanted another fifty dollar coaster. Since GameStop has a no return policy, a refund is out of the question.

I do not know what is the root of this problem. I think I do, because I caused it myself today by changing my graphics settings. I'm not sure what caused the problem, but I do know that these are the settings that work on my PC... So, try these first and then change them only one by one. Maybe you'll find settings that work on your PC. Jussi

Hi!
It seems that there is an issue with ATI videocards, especially for those using Windows 7. I hope that this gets sorted out soon... I am thinking in upgrading to Windows 7 and buy an ATI card! LOL :x
Cya!

Thx, Jussi. I was able to play about 1-2 min with your settings; I even finished the qualifying lap, than, in the 2nd race, some textures of the grass & sky started disappearing, and after 3 more sec I was thrown out to the desktop with the crash message. I really puzzled whether it is a problem of the NFS game, or of my Geforce 9800GT, or faulty OCZ RAM, or lack of power supply by OCZ 500W, or overclocked CPU. I found that many people have similar problems with Shift, and I still do not know how to make the game running stable.

Now I'm just curious how it's gonna run on my NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX... Just have to wait for one more day (if the postman is kind enough to drop it in the mailbox )

Now, I know that the issue is with the game, not with the hardware.
When I am using compatibility mode Win98/Me for the nfs shift.exe, game works fine if I do not change anything in the grafik settings.
One thing which is still really bothering me, is a steady resetting of the car while driving!
I did not figure out whether it is the controller problem or just the automatic reset of the car if we push the gas pedal too much.
Does somebody has a similar problem?

Got Speed to install. Just navigated the Speed DVD to find the folder with PhysX and had it install through the program in the folder.
So far so good as far as game play goes. Not experiencing any choppiness thus far, but haven't gotten very far so I may yet get the crash to desktop issue some people get when they get past tier 1.
Most of my play so far has been offline quick races and some online.
I thought I read somewhere that online would be set up to put aggressive drivers with other aggressive drivers, precision drivers with precision. Didn't seem to be the case as I got into a lot of rooms where guy would deliberately try to shove me right into the wall.
I think my favorite example so far was when I was racing the AE86 and everyone else had Lambos. I wasn't at the front and tried to keep a very outside line to make sure I didn't block anyone at the start. Someone still made a point to shove me off the track completely.
Also still trying to work out the drift physics with the 86. At least I'm not always spinning out.
