I am pretty sure you can not install to another directory - other than what you have your operating system on. I tried to install once on my 2nd HD - but it would not allow that. I actually have a download version and a DVD disk - so I tried to install the DVD one onto my 2nd HD - was not possible. I think that is why it says error attempting to create directory. You will need to clean up your main directory and install onto that - but why not? You do know that if your HD is full it takes longer to access files - it is not like a SSD where you can fill it up without performance lose.

Poul yea, its a good point. i was going to do that if there was no other choices. I think its kind a strange cause often i can install other games on my other HD. But im going to clean my main disc and makes some good run times i hope Roughneck

Sorry today is an American Holiday I slept in late,,, I have shift installed on my second drive which is a RAID container. You're error message could also mean it can't read the CD, maybe the CD is scratched, when the install process get to the point where it creates the directory at that point it can't read the CD...... however the error message doesn't mention the CD drive Also have you defrag your hard drive before installing the game? If you haven't done that,,, try it The drive maybe so fragmented it can't read the hard drive.... edit; Here a link to MicroSoft knowledge base. Just enter your error message in here.. then click search support.microsoft.com/search/

Poul Hey Poul I have a question about the SSD drive? do you still have or need a swap file ? and if so, is the swap file on the SSD drive or the secondary drive? My swap file is on my fastest drive D:\

Hey Sunny
Are you referring to virtual memory on paging file? It is system managed on my SSD which is my main directory C: The other 500 GB HD is set up as two 250 GB HD´s with no swap file, which might explain why I was unable to install Shift onto one of those.

I have multiple hard drives, each with multiple partitions. Currently I have Windows XP installed on partition F, and all games, including NFS Shift, installed on partition G, no issues. Swap file and temp directory are on a partition J (a different hard drive).

Yes I was refering to the Virtual memory page file. My D: drive is three 500GB hard drives in a RAID stripe all in one large volume..total space is 1.0 TB

Then it must have been something else causing me to be unable to install onto my 2nd hard drive - not sure what it was - tried several times.
