If your TV is FullHD you can go up 1920x1080, HD Ready 1280x720 (Xbox like)...I play on a 32" Regza sometimes with 720p and its pretty nice just try it. Dell, ok, i dont like these Computers, i prefer to build my own (cheaper, very cheaper and better hardware than DELL own build things) but im sure that with an XPS you will get a new Gaming feeling and if its real that faster machine = better laptimes u will explode your records I also prefer to build my own PC however it's hard to beat Dell 's software package bundle. I can get MS Office suite $150.00 plus the system I'm checking out has GTX295 video card for a mere $300.00..... Dell has a really cool chassis layout, were the PSU has a release button and the PSU slides out of the way. same for the card slots and the memory, very easy access. Plus my friends employee discount I'll be saving up to 40% on the purchase price..

No worries, with this rebate you will make a nice deal but i wouldnt buy a SLI System and not on this old GTX295 (its just 2 GTX260 65nm, old ones), a HD5850/70 is really enough and not much expensive than a GTX295 (the 5850), i like nvidia but i must recognise that the actual ATI Cards just blowing nvidia ones, just look to the power consumption Software package, ok, Microsoft Software i do not pay for it anymore (just a principe to me, i worked as reseller for this <censored> company)...

Hey I just looked at Dell´s home site in the U.S and the way you can personalize your PC there really suck and it is a hell of a lot more expensive than if you go buy the stuff yourself and build the darn thing. I guess if Sunny can get a 40% employee discount and then buy one of the high end systems, he will be all right. I just do not understand why the hell you do not just go to a site like piratebay and download that Works package - if that program is essential to you - and then buy the parts for your PC where ever it´s cheapest. I owned a Dell once and thought it to be a great PC, but it´s too expensive these days and the way you get to personalize when you buy leave very few choices and some things you just have to include like the choice of monitor - it´s not even optional whether to buy one or not. And for God sake do not go out and buy a GTX 295 - like rtxus mentions it´s a SLI system basically 2x GTX 260 - though number of ALUs are 480 compared to the 260´s 192 which should then have been 2x192 if the same and then number of texture units, which are 160 compared to the 260´s 64 texture units that should then have been 2x64. The texture units they ripped of from the GTX 280 - and the process is 65nm on the GTX 260 and slightly better 55 on the GTX 295. Again like rtxus says ATI have much better deals at the moment and price/performance wise you get much more there. But of course Nvidia made a GTX 470 and also a new GTX 465, but I am not sure what price they will end up with there and how these will compare to ATI. And if you plan to buy this some time at the end of the year my guess is that ATI will have something new on the market - being they are 6 months ahead of Nvidia at the moment. If I was to build a gaming rig that also will perform in applications and general use I would go buy this: Case: Antec 902 - 120$ www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129058CPU: Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor 194$ (was found for 160$ at one point - check prices) www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD6 LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard w/ USB 3.0 & SATA 6 Gb/s - 200$ www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128410R Optical drive: Sony Optiarc Black - 27$ www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118030Hard drive for OS: OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTX50G 2.5" 50GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Fastest SSD ever tested by Legit Reviews) 189$ www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227528Hard disk for storage: Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB - 99$ www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10440897&PID=3332167&SID=PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W - 110$ www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) - 110$ www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277Graphics card: GIGABYTE GV-R585OC-1GD Radeon HD 5850 - 310$ www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125318OS: Windows 7 - 110$ at newegg.com I do not know if you would need a cooler for the processor - only if you plan to overclock your CPU. Now if you want some new speakers I suggest Logitech X-540 - 89$ In total around less than 1600$ $ and for that you get a high end PC system with a SSD that will really kick ass and read up to 285MB and instantly boot into windows and the seeking time is so much faster than anything else you have ever experienced. Also a kick ass graphics card that is 27% cooler than the stock design and performs a whole lot better. If you think of buying a new monitor then that takes a lot of reading reviews, because there are so many poorly performing monitors out there and people just buy such ones without doing their homework. Another thing - do not go out and buy those Clarkdales i5 - they are only dual cores and not quad cores. And you get much better performance with a quad. - also in gaming. Now a lot of things will probably change at the end of the year - better products out there for fewer dollars Poul

I have just ordered a second GeForce GTX 275, when it arrives and I've got it installed, I'll run the test again to see the difference. It could be that I have to order a sli-bridge as well, but maybe there comes one with the card. Don't know for sure, but we'll see.

Hey Poul
WOW you put alot of work into that inventory list, I just hope I can find this thread in 6 months from now, I agree that building my own PC give a person a sense of accomplishment. I've build my last 5 PC over the past 20 years and with you're detail inventory list I'll most likely build my next PC too.
The thing about Dell was that I worked at Dell computer for 15 years in the engineering lab...plus I have stocks in Dell Computer, but it was just a thought that was running through my head..

Hmm. As i have just bought a new monitor, i'd like to run this. But i have to download a Net version 2 (whatever that is meants to be), and once i did, it wouldn't work, because apparantly my computer doesn't meet requirements. Huh? So anyway, i've stopped trying to find all the updates i have to download. Is there anything else i can use that doesn't involve downloading a million things?

O'yea one thing I forgot to mention,,, I got lucky this week playing the lotto...wahoo I got $1,000 to spend on a new PC,,,,, Im wanting stay cheap but not to cheap,,, skimp on some item and not on others... For sure I want your case selection, I really like that box design. I'm thinking just for right now of swaping out my current video card out of the old PC,,,,allow me to get the SSD drive... I could also swap out this 750W PSU i just bought in January but I would still need a PSU for the old system so I would only save $50 bucks... I'm coming after you Aaron, I'm going to beat you're lap times...

Hey Sunny Congratulations on your win 1000$ is a lot of money and you sure could do some upgrades. A new motherboard, processor, memory and two 5570 in Crossfire and you are good to go. It will be faster than a 5850 graphics card. Let me think on what to buy, but at the moment I am installing a new Star Wars game I just bought. About the difference from i5 to i7 - That is not an easy thing to describe - the difference. The thing is that all Intel´s CPU´s at the moment are extremely good in performance. What you need to look for is socket. This explains the difference: The 1156 socket some of those has integrated graphics and they lack a lot of the extra features like Hyper threading or turbo mode. They are based on the Clarkdale architecture and only has 2 cores, but they are ok for gaming - especially when overclocked which some of them do really well. But it is the Lynnfield you really want: Those babies are SO much better in overall performance and gaming. All pictures where from Anandtech´s site and here is a link to their article on Lynnfield - you can also find articles on Clarkdale. www.anandtech.com/show/2832I can only advice you to do some reading if you plan on buying a new system, because it´s a mess right now with all the different sockets and names and such. Just remember that the 6 cores that hopefully will be cheaper - i7 980 costs like 999$ - are said to only be available on the 1366 socket, but I have no idea what happens next year - perhaps Intel introduces a whole new socket.
