Every participating member at wrecord (I think thats the majority of Shift racers here) is using a packed version. In my opinion I dont think unpacked is equal cheating. As soon as you mod the physics files, I definitly consider it as cheating. You didnt change anything- then everything will be all right, even when the game is unpacked.

I have a very simple question for this forum of respected racers. I found that running my game unpacked reduced my steering lag. The following is my very simple question; Is running the game un-packed (and completely unmodded) considered cheating? Thanks, MB Heck yea it's considered cheating, Unpacking you're game files give you have a much higher grip & top speed level than everyone else. We'll let the other lead moderators voice there option on this issue. You don't have any lagg on that steering wheel most likely you're wheel isn't setup right.

Why should this be cheating!? What you mean is modifying the physics.xml and carfiles. If he just unpacked the game to run a Timeattackmod,Carreermod, F1Mod or so, whats wrong? As long as he doesnt gain a physical benefit it aint cheating!

Unpacking you're game files give you have a much higher grip & top speed level than everyone else. Running an "unpacked" game shouldn't have an effect, but since NFS Shift appears to be system sensitive, aything that affects the cpu or graphics loading on the game may have an effect on gameplay. Who knows what the side effects of using the unpacked parameter has with NFS Shift? I was using no head shake and no blur mods, but I repacked the files so the game is running in packed mode. It's probably having some effect on the game because the no head shake reduced graphics overhead. Even running at 1280x720 versus 1280x960 may be having some effect.

Well I guess if no one is calling unpack files cheating then I might just unpack mine. I guess Aaron not complaining. I raced Aaron last night in Time attack 14.0 rating I was the second car and I stay right on him the entire lap, with in 10 feet of his rear bumper, and he did a 2 second better lap time than me. So unpacking might give me that 2 seconds back, who know I might even get 4 seconds better time,,, then I might be able to beat Poul So is it ok for the Monster to unpack his files..... edit; "speak now or forever hold you're peace"...........

I say go for it man. It's only going to help your PC access the files it needs faster. It's not a modification...

Well, i dont know what you want to hear. I would think everyone here is old enough to know right from wrong. I dont have any kids, so im not anyones dad, do whatever floats your boat. As long as everyone participating in the PBRC competitions follow the rules, i dont care what you do in career or online. If i think your cheating, i wont race you though, i'll go to another lobby. If you want my definition of cheating...Anything that adds performance to lap times or scores that is not within original game files or from EA(for example), is cheating. Sunny, one of us must have had some serious lag then, because the only race you was on my bumper was when i was using the Camaro(rated 12.0). When i switched to the Gallardo, i never seen you in the mirror unless i screwed up. I had to look at the map to see how far behind you was.

I'm not unpacking anything, I just want you "Aaron" the Top Dog to speak. Maybe I should have just thrown you a bone instead. Heck I can't keep people in my room long enough to race as it is. let alone if I were 2 seconds faster. I jump into a room and everyone jump out, I guess they all are afraid of Monsters.. Maybe a new PC later on this year. We should have a new NFS game come out this year, Shift was released in Sept /09...

So, Is unpacking the game considered cheating if it is completely unmodded?
I cant seem to get a straight answer on this, but I would really like to know.
Reputation is the only thing you got in this game unless you are a cheater who doesnt care. My opinion is that what's the point of playing if you cheat. I based my whole clan "www.lightsreflection.co.nr" on that theory. We've been around for almost 5 years. I want to know if it's wrong or if it's ok. I dont like being accused of cheating and I have been accused by one of the "moderators" of this forum. If I didnt care, I would not be here. But I respect the opinion of this forum.
There's an elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about. Let's decide right now if it's cheating or if it's not.
It's a simple question. I know people are doing it, and I want to know if it's cheating or not. This seems like the place to ask.
Thanks,
MB.

Your not getting a straight answer because either nobody has unpacked their game files or they dont want anyone to know. I would have no idea what unpacking game files would do, so i cannot answer your question honestly, but like i said, if your getting faster lap times after unpacking, then its not right and unfair to others and i would consider it cheating. If by unpacking game files only reads the files faster which inturn speed up loading times only, then i dont see anything wrong with that myself. That would be no different than overclocking my cpu. @sunny, top dog? lol. Jussi and Bandit are the top dogs, im just a pup.

Thanks, MB. if you have an Intel Extreme CPU i7 and a high end video card then you should be able to ruff the game like everyone else. The game has alot of bugs and everyone knows it. Sometimes my car handles really good and then other times I can't keep it on the track. I was racing online a few minutes ago and QuadcoreMax came in and everyone boo them out of the game. Once everyone knows your cheating then you will lose all respect from other players and then the game will not be fun anymore. What I do care about is; that you try to keep my green paint off you're car.

I never heard that by unpacking your game it would make your car go faster unless you edited the physics files - which is cheating.
I too do not know what is meant by unpacking your files. And how would it speed up the games loading times? I do not even think that having a high end graphics card and a fast CPU will make your car go faster. If that was the case I think someone who had upgraded his hardware would have wrote about it. Rogerio changed from having a Nvidia 8800 GT to a ATI 5850 and I have not see any post from him stating that his lap times were suddenly improved significant.
