Ok,,,,, lets see. I installed a new 650W PSU, after the first boot the PC booted with the ATi installed, Everything seem to be going well, I installed the ATi drivers and it rebooted and now the video doesn't work. there's power just no video, When the PC boots there's no video durning post boot before Windows even loads... So I tried my old card and it does come up with video except its all scrambled, So that card is F....K up,, the Ati card worked before installing the drives.....
I having a bad day

I am having the same situation as you are, It has been snowing since Christmas and it hasn't stop the roads are all snowed covered and I drive a Mitsu Eclipse sit low to the ground. They talk about global warming well what about the cold azz winters we have lets talk about that. So I went to a local PC's store here in little BFE. And bought a logisys ,,, www.logisyscomputer.com/viewsku.asp?SKUID=PS650U12&DID=POWERSUPPLY for $70.00 bucks the store is less than a mile away. Tomorrow I'm going up there and buy a cheap video card, So I can get into my PC and get my data off the drives before going back to Best Buy and replacing this card.... I feel pissed off that I bought a new ATi 4890 video card and it was bad. I thought I should go different than NVidia and look what happen. At least the NVidia worked straight out of the box. My digital camera is broken so I can't take any pictures Sunny

Well it sure is strange if its the ATI 4890 card that is not working. Are you planning on a replacement or do you wanna see if you can get a Nvidia? I expect they will only give you another 4890 and not let you have a Nvidia right?

What drivers did you install on that 4890 - the ones that came with the card or did you have one on your PC? I think I had same problem once and I unplugged the card from the slot and then tried again and then it worked. I think its BIOS that does it and sometimes needs a retry.

I use the drives on the CD,, it is very strange that it worked and then stoped working after installing the drivers. My gut feeling tells me that my bad PSU trashed the video card somehow. I tried reseating the video card many time, also bought can air to blow out the socket. Before each reseating I unpluged the PC and let it sit for 30 Mins. Then reseated it and tried it again.... The cards dead........

This is the problem today, everything is made cheap, to last only a year or 2, throw it away and buy a new one. They sure dont build things like they used to.
Best Buy will exchange the card with no questions asked and they will give you the Nvidia if you want it, you will just have to pay the difference. There is a chance you bought a bad card to begin with, but i agree with you that the old PSU might have fried it.
Does your new PSU have 2 6 pin PCI plugs? or did you have to use the adapter that came with the 4890?
Well i hope you get it fixed today!

OK,,, I think it's fixed, Today I return the ATi 4950 and when I went to go get another ATi video card there was only one left in the store and it looked like it had already been used, the box was scuffed up a little. So instead I bought a NVidia GTS-250 1GB video memory. The GTS-250 was a $129.00 and the Ati was $179.00 so I got $50.00 back.... I already raced one race before replying to this thread. So I hope I am fixed up for this year's racing season. btw it is still snowing outside........... USA had the hotest summer last year on record and now we have the coldest winter ever on record. And winter is not over for another 3 months. Sunny

Aww man my sagga continues, first day of being able to be online and my new PSU died, So much for going cheap and close
The main fan on the PSU quit spinning........ Sure hope this little computer store takes it back..... I've only had it two days so hopefully he does..... I'll be getting that conair after all.
I have a small question? why would a PC shock you when u touch it.... I would think a bad ground would cause this..
but I have a ground cable plug into a ground cable power strip and plug into the ground cable in the wall.... So what is bad?

My God Remember to get the HX model if you do not mind using that extra 20$. I guess this is why my power supply is a Tagan 900w Piperock - looks awesome don´t you think? I do not know if you ever buy at tigerdirect or it has to be newegg. www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5074042&CatId=106The reason to why your PC shocked you would be static electricity - I hope - otherwise you sure have a problem. I have no idea how things work in the U.S, but here in Denmark our houses electricity is grounded using a spear - wall outlet.
