Either my timing is bad for when I play online or most of the faster players have quit playing NFS Shift. Most of the players I see online now are relatively new players, unaware of which cars to use for the various ratings, many of them only partially through career mode (level less than 20), and having problems with the cars. There's less ramming now, but more players sliding off into the dirt because they don't know the tracks yet.
It could be due to the holiday season, as I'm not online much anymore, which is probably true of most of the players, so with fewer players online overall, you end up with more players that have just received the game.

Yeah I'm one of those newbies sliding off the track.
I pretty much know which cars to use, but damned if I know how to tune them.

I made a savegame for online play. Cars have what I called a "baseline" setup, the obvious things like tire pressure, gearing, downforce. Rear anti-roll bar and differential adjusted to deal with oversteer as needed. Caster to calm down "nervous" cars. Fast rebound to max to reduce bounce (although all dampers to middle may be better). Rear toe to -.30 since that's what I use in other sims, don't know that it's doing anything in Shift. rcgldr.net/nfss/nfss.zip

Hi!
I guess that many people, especially the faster ones, are waiting for a Ghost Mode... I know I am! ;P

I guess that many people, especially the faster ones, are waiting for a Ghost Mode... I know I am! If you're one of the faster players, the rammers can't keep up, so it's not much of an issue. Also I don't see as many rammers online as before, not sure if it's related to some players being away for the holidays, with newer, less agressive, players taking their place. The only other issues is once a player is known to be fast, some players will leave a room once they see that player. You probably don't want to be running at near world record place if the second place car is 30 seconds behind and dropping back. Players more than 30 seconds behind the lead car when it's done never get to complete a race, so they quit, and may leave a room if they see you again. If I'm in a group of slower players, which is happening more often these days, I drive slow or sometimes follow the lead car to blend in with the crowd.

i had a full pit last night when i was running. about 4-5 of them were level 50, but i do know what you mean when you say that there are more and mroe new people playing online.
since christmas has just passed by many people would of got the game. there was a few people that were jsut as fast as me. RedArrow ( who we all know) was keeping up with me last night.
what time do you run online rcgldr? i take it that your in the USA?
many people seem to be from germany, as i see them speaking germans while waiting to race. so if you go online during 8pm- midnight ( german time)you should see more of them around.
i havent seen you race online for a while, would be good to have a few races with a fast player.

What time do you run online rcgldr? I take it that your in the USA? Random times, as my hours change around a bit. My time zone is GMT -8:00. UK is GMT +0:00, so it's 8 hours ahead, most of Europe is GMT +1:00 so it's 9 hours ahead. I'm up late as write this, 1:50 am here, so 9:50 am in the UK and 10:50 am in most of Europe. 8 pm Europe time would be 11:00 am my time, which I've occasionally done.

I guess that many people, especially the faster ones, are waiting for a Ghost Mode... I know I am! In your case, you could get rammed to the back of the pack and still end up in first place in most races. Most of the time in a rough group you can hang back just behind a group of bunched up cars and wait for the eventual pile up that takes a group off track allowing you to go by. The real issue is you will seldom find a challenging race online, players will get discouraged and leave races if you get too far ahead, and some will think you're cheating. Perhaps when the wrecord group tires of hot lapping and decides to go online and race each other things will be more interesting for the faster players like you. One alternative to an online race is to run an online time attack. In the case of Nordschliefe, you get a 15 or 16 minute window, which allows you to wait for about 2 minutes to let the pack go by if you don't start near the front, before you start your hot laps. You'll probably run into traffic on the second lap though. The time attacks spread the cars out a bit more, and the players are less likely to ram, but then it's a time trail event, not a race.

i've never seen a online time attack race before.. have you run in them? Yes, just create one. A lot of players chose any for race type, so they will end up joining your time attack. That's how I ended up in my first few time attacks that were created by other players. Most seem to be willing to try it out.

I finally saw Cipriani online. In a few of these races I got to start at the front of the pack, with Cipriani at the back of the pack but it wasn't long before he was tapping on my rear bumper, then going by. The host kept running at tight crash fest tracks, where it's difficult to get by cleanly. In one race at Ebisu, Cipriani tapped me, but probably due to lag, spun himself out, while having little effect on my car, so he let me win one race. I left to watch a USA football game (the Cowboys won, but face the Vikings a week from now).
I saw zx12rcr ealier, but my game crashed after a few races, and we never synced up again. I haven't seen queencze or vrtkiller in over a month now. I'm not aware of any other players that would be as fast as Cipriani online. VRTKiller has the record at Spa with a 1:48.xx and zx12rcr at Willow Springs with a 1:05.xx, although I don't know if these were time attacks, which might be faster, or if there was a speed bug.

So why wouldnt you race with Sunny and myself last night Jeff? You kept popping in our lobby. Cipriani raced with us! Norman is very fast online, but he can be beat. Right Norman? I have alot of fun racing with Norman, he gives me good competition and races clean. My old buddy Sunny will be getting faster now he is using manual gearing! I raced a few guys last night that was pretty fast, TooHi was one of them, cant remember the other names and they all raced clean. If you can find Poul online, race with him. He is a beast online!

It has been a long time since I have raced Norman online. I usually get spun out trying to overtake people, because most people seem to have very little knowledge of the tracks and they either brake too soon or too late. I also have a big problem with lag. I think it´s my own connection causing this - but it´s really frustrating to be racing online when everybody rams each other, because the car in front is in reality just in front of you - though it looks like it´s a mile away. i know others who say that there is a big issue with lag, and that it´s not just me causing this - but in fact the server.
I raced yesterday with some good players - but 10-12 cars with lag is not even funny at Spa GP. I was 6th in that race despite I can do a lap time of 2.01. You need to start in front otherwise you do not stand a chance. I also think I have another problem - perhaps because of lag - if I tap someone in the rear my car spins out no matter what. Also if someone hits me in the rear - never is it the other guy who gets spun off - always me - damn it.
