make believable videos like zx12rcr
I asked him to make those videos, to see if they were similar to unusually fast videos made by proxkruiz and anak. If he had something to hide, I don't think he would have made those videos, since he knew I was specifically looking for anything unusual.
Anyway, I focused too much on zx12rcr, since he doesn't do wrecord.com, it doesn't really prove anything. Proxkruiz is a much better example of what I think is going on, since his video looks so much different than other player's videos and since he is on wrecord.com.
Hacking wrecord could be possible, but I am not aware of any hack that causes the cars to be smooth like proxkruiz's video.
The .bff files used by NFS Shift are like zip files. You extract all the files from the .bff, modify one or more those extracted files, then repack the files to create a new modified .bff file. That is how I created my own no head shake and no blur mods (you need to remove the "1" at the end of the names after backing up the original files):
rcgldr.net/nfss/nfssmods.zipSimlar mods already exist, but I made my own to make sure that the changes didn't involve anything related to performance in the game.
Cheating for online play is easy:
Increasing grip level is a single line change in one of the .bff files. Increasing power requires changing a table in the .bff file for each car and would be time consuming. My guess is that few players have done this, and the ones that did weren't trying to hide it, making it obvious that they were cheating.
I doubt that many players would bother to figure out this stuff themselves, and most cheaters download mods made by others, or they use trainers.
wrclient checks the game directory, and will complain if there are any extra files. It also does some type of file check (checksum or crc), on all files or at least on all important files.
Rather than trying to modify files that get past the checks in wrclient, which would require reverse engineering wrclient, if a person is going to reverse engineer wrclient, it would be much simpler to create a trainer or to make a modified version of wrclient that defeats all the checks done by wrclient. Consdering trainers are made for games that are much larger and more complicated than wrclient, it would be relatively easy compared to the trainers made for games.
Bottom line, it would be possible to defeat wrclient, but I don't see the motivation for spending the time to do this.
