No...i'm not. I'm really not. I don't know where to start, but either it gets it act together tomorrow or it's going back on saturday. No, i am not joking. I've only just started the game today, so maybe it will get better, but for me, it's basically unplayable. Jussi, if you thought the handling on keyboard in TDU1 was bad, wait till you try this! And don't think you'll get past it by using a wheel. Because it doesn't appear to know what one is. Precious few people have their game working with a wheel. The handling is horrid! I've driven 3 cars so far, and they are all horrid. It's like driving a train on rails, with horrendous understeer. Now, my computer ain't bad, but if you don't have the min specs (and they aren't low), don't bother. My poor PC is running itself ragged. CPU usage spikes to 100%, and i'm getting performance warnings, then the game stalls. As in, stops, and you have to wait for it to come back to life. It's my own fault though. I only have 1 core. Should have read the system requirements better, but i was sure i was ok. I close everything i can, and still getting this. Though the game runs smooth when it does even with other people around Scud, you've got no hope on your laptop for this. My game, for reasons known only to itself, starts and stays in a window. No full screen. And i still have the 'start' bar at the bottom, and the top bar with the minimise, maximize and close boxes top and bottom of the screen. Even at full resolution. The menu system (as well as getting around with your avatar) is frustratingly annoyingly overcomplicated. The game is beautiful, but so what? I literally can't do anything. I'm no driving wizard, and i stood up for the handling in TDU1, because i did on keyboard no problem. But i have no idea how on earth anyone is (will be) able to control a car at 150km/h+ on keyboard in this. It's just not possible i tell you. So yeah. I don't know what else to do about the wheel. I've done everything as with my previous games, starting from Logitec, etc, etc. I've got to the point where it will pick it up, but apparantly my pedals, as well as left and right on the wheel are the same thing. If i could ge this to work, then i would put up with everything else. But if i can't, then the game's going back. Simple as that. Anyone else got the game? What do you think?

Should've seen that coming... Part II of Atari's shitty handling model. Even more shittier than the first one. That's how sequels normally are, more of the same stuff, but "improved". Jussi PS. At least they tried to fix it, since it's not the same as before.

Hmm, to start off with: the game has not been officially released here in Europe.. (timezones ) And trying to run it with a single core CPU is imho, at least to be called: brave.. I'm actually amazed that it starts and runs! I can't help out trying to get it to work on single core CPU's as i simply don't have any of that anymore available here but i will buy and try it probably tomorow or the coming weekend.. I'm a bit 'in fear' now about this handling issue thingy you're mentioning there though i've played the beta and that seemed pretty good on first glance. As for Scud: i don't know if he's got a dual or more -core processor in his laptop but that should make alot of difference i guess. And yeah, the menu thingy was already overdone in the beta but that's something i could live with if Atari hasn't changed too much on it. I hope it'll get better for you Kat, as i was looking forward to revitalizing our lovely Exclusive Motor Racing Club Be cool, Bandit

My viewpoint will be slightly warped here, since I'm on PS3 not PC, but...
For me it was the opposite. The slightest turning movement = OMG FULL LOCK BRO... which was, well, less than convenient. Turned down the steering sensitivity several notches and good enough. Maybe it would help if you did the opposite?

Ok, well, turns out i'm an idiot What i actually have is a Core 2 Duo E6750 with 2.66GHz. Which is over the minimim specs. I have Windows XP, but it's the Service pack 3, which satisfies both min and recommended specs. Having XP limits my 4gb RAM to 3.5, but that is over the recommended specs. Today i just updated my video card drivers because nothing eles needed doing. I've also cleaned it to free up some space. But my little computer was working itself into a cloud of smoke yesterday (NO, not literally!), blinking at me with 100% CPU usage, and performance warnings. WTF is that about? Does that mean it's only using 1 core? Why isn't it using both? Adding to my dismay is that i bought this game on sale from not my usual shop, and i therefore cannot return for a refund So i'm stuck with this crap. If i cannot get the wheel to work, there is no point even trying. The cars are woeful to drive. Stig, yes, full lock on keyboard and round the merry-go-round we go. Forget going around a corner. You're going exploring unless you slow to a crawl, because with the keyboard, you simply cannot get around it. And yes, the game does have damage. Not major, but all 3 cars i've driven would have better suited with off-road tyres, and some kind of armor. It will not open in full screen, but a stupid window! Bandit my friend, the simple fact of the matter is, if it won't recognise my wheel and pedals, then it's over. For a LOT of people. A LOT! My question is...with this being a PC game with this stupid key and all, can i sell this thing through the local paper? Will it work on someone else's PC? I know when i've uninstalled games, and installed them back on, i've had to go through the CD Key stuff all over again. So if i uninstall, will the next person be able to play it? Because yes, that's what it's going to be if the damn thing doesn't get it's act together. Because it's not my PC. It's the damn game P.S - this is the 1st PC game i've had problems with since i started playing. No joke. Others have had little niggles, but this is rediculous.

I hope we can together get this game working right for all of us. Obviously it's not running as intended on your PC, Kat. Mine is on the mail from UK. Should arrive shortly (I suspect). Jussi PS. I did manage to drive around in some slower cars in beta, but it's not NFS quality handling that's for sure.

Well, i have news. Sorry, this will be a long post, but i want to give as much info as i can.
I dunno what the performance warning were about, but they are gone.
Plan yesterday was check all drivers and clean everything.
Drivers were all u to date.
Didn't have to defragment anything.
Did a little dusting of my C drive, but really, there wasn't much there.
So i dunno if that's what did it, but i'm not convinced because there simply wasn't anything much to clean or delete. Either way, i don't care, the game works.
Now, i have an NVidea 8800GT with 1gig. I am running this game in 19--whatever by 1080. Max resultion. I have everything else set to high. And guess what...it all works fine. No frame rate drops, no lag. I don't get it, because the min spec is an 8800GTX, and recommended is a GTX 280. Again, i don't care, it works!
As far as the wheel story...it works! Horribly, bloody moronic game, it will not detect it, but it will map all controls to it! But, i would only call the handling and driveability at the very most 'manageable'. Reason being, there is no FFB in the game. You noly get vibration when you go off road. I haven't played enough with the setting yet, but at the moment, ingame, the FFB is medium, and i can't feel a thing.
But, the single most infuriating thing which makes life so f-ing difficult is that i am almost at full lock before the bloody car turns. The deadzone is incredible! Incredibly bad that is. And nothing can change this. Everyone, and i do mean everyone is having the same problems with deadzone. nothing you can do either ingame or in Logitech Profiler will help. So we're all waiting on a patch.
But...the cars are quite individual to drive. I have so far driven my Lotus Esprit, which is lovely. The Mustang and Camaro are awefully twitchy in the back end. And the Range Rover was...well, like a heavy 4x4 would feel. Whereas the lighter VW Touareg (sp?) didn't feel like a lumbering elephant. My little Golf i have now feels quick and nimble, but can get a little tail-happy.
All in all, im finding the driving hard. It demands you actually drive. You can't take your foot off the gas and turn the wheel and just cruise through it and out the other side. You need to be doing something all the time. And you can forget about just planting your foot on the gas when the race starts. You'll just spin your wheels. The more power you have, the more careful you need to be. I might have to reduce my accelerator sensitivity, lol. And drifting, although i haven't quite got the hang of it, is fun when you get it right! And there are several ways of getting it right, just like in real life.
I have also discovered that you cannot sell any car. All you can do is trade stuff in once your garage is full, because you must buy 3 cars to get through the first 3 championships. You win cars, but you cannot sell, paint, or tune them. You are stuck with what you win, as it is. There is no online trade, buy/sell like with TDU1. At least, not now. Even the online servers aren't working yet. People are hoping they'll get their act together and patch things soon, because as it is presently, the game isn't a happy place to be.
Though, there are some good points. The scenery is beautiful. The night/day cycle works. The rain, cloudy, lightning is cool. Though, i would love to have windscreen wipers and raindrops on my windscreen.
I spent almost an hour playing with my face yesterday. I mean this literally. You have access to a plastic surgeon, and you can change everything on your face in good detail. And you get to do this pretty short into the game.
So yeah, good and bad points. I'm not as livid as i was when i first loaded it and got crap-all. But niether am i happy. They really need to sort out the FFB and the deadzone, and it'll be a MUCH better game.
But Jussi, i wouldn't even attempt to play this with a keyboard.

Y'know, I had noticed that I was never able to access the online servers... have they really not gotten that sorted? As much emphasis as they put on the online portion of the game, one would think that would be set to go when it was released. You really can't sell cars? I looked quickly when I won that Mustang but figured it was just buried somewhere. That's dumb. On the launches, sounds like you need some AWD Lancia Delta Integrale <3.

Damn I just paid for mine online and it has already been handed to the courier so I cant cancel. Why did none of the reviews mention these problems? Someone got paid I bet! What a pity was looking forward to this as I could never get hold of the 1st release in this country. B

It may have flaws, but that's not stopping me from playing it I was able to get online about 10 minutes after my last post, go figure lol. Turns out you can sell some cars buy trying to buy one you can't afford, but not the prize cars. Lame.

EDIT - sorry for another enormous reply! Grab a cuppa before you read on Ok, so another update... and a total 360 from me... i'm really enjoying this, lol So i'm sorry, the old saying 'never judge a book by it's cover' stands true, and i shall not open my mouth before i have a decent time to play something again. Lesson learnt. The servers have been stuffing up a lot...this is being fixed as we speak. No, you can't sell cars...at the moment...again, something that's being looked into. There's a lot of bugs, and lots of issues being looked into, but the one thing they want to fix 1st up is all the server issues and connection problems. Everyone's (and i do mean everyone) is having connection problems of one sort or another, and not all the game's online facilities are working (eg, the casino). You can still get online and play, and according to the devs, Atari have now put up more servers as well as fixed the lot that weren't working. At the moment, the issues with the wheels and FFB not working are not seen as a priority, and will be addressed once they fix all the online stuff. Which i can understand. The problems with deadzone and handling can, for now, be tweaked and relatively overcome, and i having nowhere near the problems i was at the start. There's a lot of talk about patches, and there had already been an update, although i'm not sure what it was about to be honest. I'm getting all this info from the TDU forums if you guys are wondering. The devs have actually been very nice, and are replying to threads. The way some people are acting, i would have told them to F Off. Scud, i'm honestly not sure how this will be with the keyboard. I have since learnt to tweak the handling, but have not played with the keyboard since i got the wheel working. There are actually linearity adjustments for both brake and gas, and you can adjust them so both aren't either fully on or off. There's a guide on the forums how these work. But again, i don't know how well this works, as i'm playing with the wheel, and can't be bothered re-mapping everything to keyboard, and then back again to the wheel. The scenery is gorgeous! I've taken some pics, and as soon as i work out if i can get them on here somehow i will post them. Anyone know? I've taken pics like you did in TDU1, how do you get them on here? The amount of 'stuff' is mindblowing. The amount of clothes - wow! There are roundabouts in the cities! The cop chases are ... well, lets say, there is no scale like in NFS. You stuff up, and you're on NFS level 6 right away. I mean, helis, cops ramming you, the whole lots. And yesterday i get a call from the cops asking if i want to be part of a chase squad to arrest some speeder! I accepted, and so did another person (so i'm assuming this is an online thing), but nothing happened. So that might be another thing they need to fix. But what an awesome phonecall to get! And guess what? I have my 1st 2 convertibles... the gorgeous DB9 Volante , and a Mercedes 55 AMG (i think, i won it, didn't buy it). And the tops are so cool to play with! And they work like in real life too. And yes, you can paint the cars anyway you want, you have a full colour pallet. And you can put 'stickers' 9 (vinyls kinda) on them too, anywhere, any size, any colour. My Audi A5 is a 2-tone blue, a light blue over a dark blue...yummy. The paint on some of these cars is ... gorgeous ... you can see the metallic bits glistening as if i was looking at my own car in the driveway. And yes, there really are 2 islands, Ibiza, and our old Hawaii. And yes, once you get to the level to go to Hawaii, you can go back anf forth as you like. As someone said on the forums, there's a brilliant game there just struggling to get out. I really do believe that the poor devs are trying to fix everything, and trying to keep everyone happy. And once things get moving and working properly, it really will be a great game.
